Vanderlyn Alumnus Builds Potting Stations in Teaching Gardens for Eagle Scout Project

Kesler Madden, former Vanderlyn student and current Dunwoody High School sophomore, recently completed construction on a row of potting stations adjacent to the gym. Kesler wanted to lead a project that would help Vanderlyn students for years to come.

Coach Dwyer asked Kesler to build a row of potting stations adjacent to the school’s gym where students could plant seedlings until they are big enough to be planted in the garden.  Kesler found a design and got it approved by Ms. Crenshaw.  He consulted a neighborhood handyman, Nick Bass, to determine the materials that would be needed.  Kesler reached out to family and friends for donations to make this project a reality.  He collected over $700 in order to purchase the materials and supplies, feed his volunteers, and include a plaque to memorialize the project.

Kesler is a member of Dunwoody Methodist’s Troop 266. The completion of the project is the last requirement to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Thank you to Kesler and Troop 266 for their commitment to Vanderlyn! The Boy Scouts also helped spread mulch around the school grounds during their work sessions. Vanderlyn is thankful for alumni who continue to give back to Vanderlyn long after their time here.
