There are lots of not-so-obvious travel tips out there, so I hope this new series “Did You Know?” will help you discover some tricks of the trade and propel you into savvy traveler status! 🙂
This first “Did You Know?” is for all you loyal Delta flyers. Yes, Delta Airlines is more expensive but below are 3 tips to help you save when flying Delta!
1) Did you know you can receive 15% off your Delta Sky mileage ticket? Get a Gold or Platinum Delta American Express and your mileage tickets will be 15% less. For example, if a flight is normally 50,000 miles, it would be 42,500 if you used your Delta Amex! Make sure to attach your Delta Amex to your Skymiles account. The Platinum Amex card also offers a companion fare (2-for-1 tickets) for anywhere in the U.S. continental states (for each year you have the card).
2) Did you know if you have Platinum level status or higher on Delta, you can book in the main cabin and get free automatic upgrades to Delta Comfort for yourself and one companion (as long as there are available seats)? This includes international flights!! So, don’t ever pay for a Delta Comfort seat if you have Platinum or higher status or if you are flying with someone who has status. For international flights, I’ve seen savings of more than $1,000 per person. NOTE: if you want your non-status companion to also receive the upgrade, they must be on the same reservation number as you.
3) Did you know that since the pandemic, Delta will issue you a credit voucher if your flight drops in price? You will need to check your flights regularly, but when it happens, it’s like Christmas morning!! As an example, this past Saturday Delta randomly dropped prices on many European flights for this upcoming summer (May/June mainly). I was able to get credit vouchers of up to $778 and 135,300 miles re-deposited for 6 clients! I hope Delta never changes this policy! But again, you have to check regularly! NOTE: United and American Airlines will also issue credit vouchers.
