The tree removal required for roadway construction is complete; general preparation activities and clearing project right-of-ways are expected to resume next month. The city has a “no net loss of trees” policy and will replace trees which were removed from the right-of-way during the project construction phase.
Beginning in January 2016, crews are expected to be on site for geotechnical testing for the design of walls, which will be constructed as improvements to the stormwater detention pond located behind the Summer’s Landing facility.
Prior to the construction of any lane improvements, the existing utilities must be relocated out of the footprint of the proposed lanes. Within this intersection there are over a dozen different utility companies with overhead and underground facilities that provide service to the residents of Dunwoody. The relocations of these utilities must be carefully orchestrated to maintain these services and will require several months to complete. As with any construction project, the project’s progression is ultimately dependent upon the weather.
The city does not anticipate the need for any full-time lane closures during this stage of construction, however drivers can expect temporary delays and the potential for periodic closure of one lane as flag crews help direct traffic around ongoing work. All potential periodic lane closures on weekdays will be permitted to occur only between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Traffic flows in the area will be monitored to properly address any potential delays during this time period.
