Saint Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, Georgia is pleased to introduce Rev. David Elton Lower as Senior Pastor/Head of Staff. Rev. Lower, a native of Atlanta, comes to Saint Luke’s from Winnetka Presbyterian Church on the north shore of Chicago where he served as Senior Pastor since 2008. He brings a heart for mission and a passion for sharing the gospel, along with a long-time love for Atlanta sports. He will begin leading services on Easter, Sunday, March 27. Rev. Lower said, “I am so pleased and fortunate to join the faithful work of Saint Luke’s Presbyterian Church. This marvelous congregation already knows the secret of faith: that people and the world rise when we serve others selflessly and trustfully. I look forward to helping cultivate the many strengths of this congregation, including community, faith, and service to others, and enjoying the journey together!” Rev. Lower studied at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and graduated in 2006 with a Master of Divinity degree. He is currently a candidate in the Doctor of Ministry Program at Candler and expects to graduate in 2017. Rev. Thomas G. Long, Bandy Professor Emeritus of Preaching at the Candler School of Theology said, “From the first time I met David Lower, when he was a student in my preaching class, I was aware of his extraordinary gifts for ministry. Intelligent, articulate, compassionate, wise beyond his years, and deeply faithful, David has been given by God the rare blend of qualities that make him a remarkable leader, an exceptional pastor, and a treasure for the church.” Rev. Lower grew up in the Morningside area of Atlanta and attended Woodward Academy (Valedictorian, 1992). He graduated from Harvard College with a B.A. cum laude in 1996 and married Amanda Exley. Prior to entering ministry, he worked as an analyst, project manager and director in the information technology sector in New York City and Atlanta. He and Amanda have two children. Bona Allen, a longtime member at Saint Luke’s and chair of the Pastor Nominating Committee said, “We are excited to have David join our congregation and our community. He is a deeply caring, deeply spiritual, deeply intellectual person with a wonderful sense of humor, an engaging personality and an inspiring preaching style.” Saint Luke’s Presbyterian Church is a 46 year-old congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in the heart of Dunwoody, Georgia, with approximately 800 members. The church offers programs of local, national and international outreach, formative Christian education for all ages, an outstanding music program, family and youth ministries, and many other opportunities for involvement.
