We are spending Thanksgiving with my Hurston side of the family in Atlanta this year. My mom and I divvied out the cooking responsibilities amongst the family chefs and my Aunt Tommie is hosting a crew of 14 plus Ozzie.
We’ve ordered smoked Turkey and Brisket from local BBQ spots…I’d share but neither are accepting last minute orders this week.
Following are a few of the family recipes/new dishes we will be devouring on Thursday:
- My brother is in charge of the Sweet Potato Casserole and it will most likely be our Mama’s version or a variation of this recipe.
- My Uncle is making my Grandaddy’s Famous Macaroni and Cheese recipe.
- My Mom is making her fabulous Red Velvet Cake. (She makes one with gluten for the family and one for me that is GF!)
- My Mom is bringing the dressing…she makes it GF for me and it is fabulous…but she kind of makes it up as she goes. I need to watch her and write down her steps!
- My cousin is bringing the best cheesecake in the world from Ma Bella’s in Columbus, GA.
- My mom is also bringing mustard/turnip greens and creamed corn….I need to get her recipes but I’ve linked similar ones just in case someone is dying for one!
- Another cousin is bringing giblet gravy and a ham and macaroni salad.
- I am bringing banana nut muffins, green beans and black eyed peas and probably something else that college boy and I grab from the list below.
Following are a few other recipes and ideas we are considering:
- 8X8 Southern Living Dishes that will STEAL the spotlight
- College boy and I are making these Cream Cheese Sausage Balls with GF Bisquick today or tomorrow.
- 19 make ahead appetizers for a low stress holiday
- If you aren’t a cook or don’t have time to cook this year, try one of these prepared dishes from Whole Foods.
