Freshway Foods is recalling 6,671 pounds of packaged green and/or red sliced apples that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogene–a dangerous organism that can cause severe illness or even death in very young, elderly or immune compromised people. Pregant women are at risk of miscarriage if contaminated with the organism. Click here for the full recall listing, including lot numbers and sell-by dates. The packaging may say “Motts” or “Sonic” or another brand. The best thing to do is just to discard any packages of these apples if you have them. If you have questions about the recall, you may call Freshway Foods at 1-855-775-3259 or visit their Web site.
