I was touring colleges out of town with my fave senior girl on Monday and started getting texts about this fence. Meanwhile, Lauren snapped this photo and popped it on our Facebook page. The comments are snarky but on point. Why the fence? That’s my simple question. I haven’t been back in Dunwoody long enough to ask the right people but wanted to give you all the chance to comment.
A friend told me she’s been talking to a Dunwoody City Councilman about this fence and apparently it may violate multiple city ordinances. I’m guessing there’s going to be much more discussion about this fence over the next few days….Feel free to leave a comment.
How is a fence around a high school violating any city ordinance?
Something about right of way and fence height?
So our Trailer Park now looks like a Prison. Great choice DCS!!
I see this from another point of view. I grew up in Australia where we have zero school shootings and no real threat of any. Every and I mean every school over there has a fence around it. The first question I got asked by my relatives when they saw the schools here were ‘where are the fences, how do they control who is going in and out of the school’. Great question? If it is another barrier of security for our children then why would you have a problem with it. Yeah it doesn’t look great but when I had a pool I had a safety fence around it and it didn’t look great but it kept it safe. Unfortunately in this day of age we have to think about safety first and if a fence is another layer to protect our kids then I am all for it especially with the trailers where safety is already an issue.
I like it. It doesn’t enclose the students on all four sides, but it hinders access to the most vulnerable classrooms.
So is the fence supposed to keep the kids from escaping the campus during school hours? I don’t think that’s going to work.
The realization is that our cafeteria is unable to hold all the students during lunch period.
Our kids are eating outside and the fence limits easy access to campus. Chamblee High School also has a fence around the front of their school. I encourage our community to unite on education of our students. A packed auditorium sends a strong message to the county officials.
