Dunwoody United Methodist Church is pleased to announce the new appointments of Senior Pastor Dr. Phil Schroeder and Associate Pastor Rev. Matt Stone, effective July 1.
For the past 7 years, Phil has been the Director of the Center for Congregational Excellence for the North Georgia Conference. He oversaw a large staff committed to training and resources for local churches and led the development of new churches and new ministries. Previously, he served as Senior Pastor of Grayson United Methodist Church for 6 years. While he was there, Grayson tripled its membership and worship attendance. Prior to Grayson, he served appointments at Peachtree Road UMC, Gainesville First UMC, Stark UMC and Lowell UMC. Phil has written or co-authored 8 books, including his most recent book, Launching Leaders, which came out last year. He has also taught as adjunct faculty at the Candler School of Theology and at Wesley Seminary in the Doctor of Ministry Program. Phil and his wife Elizabeth currently reside in Dunwoody and feel immensely blessed by the opportunity to make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the Dunwoody community and the world.
Rev. Matt Stone has been appointed as Associate Pastor at DUMC and comes from Dayspring UMC in Tyler, Texas, where he served as Lead Pastor. A native Texan, Matt has more than 12 years of service to the UMC in Kansas and Texas. He attended seminary at Southern Methodist University, where he received a Master of Divinity. Matt is passionate about Wesleyan expressions of faith that hold together the ideas of personal faith and social responsibility. He believes that we live the gospel most fully when we pay attention to both our relationship with Christ and our call to love the world in ways that bring about the Kingdom of God on earth. Matt and his wife Margaret live in Dunwoody with their two children, Charlotte and Jackson. They are looking forward to serving their new community in this exciting chapter of ministry at Dunwoody United Methodist Church.
