Nature Center to Host Backyard Campout

dnccampoutThink your family might enjoy camping but you’re a little bit wary of trekking into the wilderness? Why not start off slow with a backyard campout in the safety and convenience of Dunwoody Park? Turn off the televisions, iPods, video games, computers and cell phones and reconnect with nature, family and friends at the Nature Center’s Backyard Campout on Saturday, June 8th. During the program, you’ll enjoy family and outdoor time as the educators of the Nature Center teach some of the basics of camping like how to set up and break down tents and how to build and put out a campfire. The Nature Center will help you plan for the overnight by explaining everything that you need to bring for your adventure. And what campout would be complete without a fire, some s’mores, games, a night hike, and even a camp song or two. Campers will arrive on Saturday, June 8th at 4:00 in time to set up camp and cook dinner; then pack up Sunday, June 9th after breakfast.

Kickoff the summer by learning about the wonders of camping – and get prepared for all that you’ll need to know to plan for your next camping adventure. Pre-registration is required by going to the Nature Center’s website at www.dunwoodynature.org.

Want to join the campout, but don’t have all of the equipment that you might need? Tents, sleeping bags, and other gear is available for rent through the Nature Center’s partnership with REI Perimeter by calling (770) 901-9200
