Clean out your garages and basements and bring any unwanted metal items to the Peachtree Corners Baptist Church for recycling. Funds from recycling efforts benefit the church high school choir.
This is the time of the year many homeowners look around and start thinging about tacking the annual chore of spring cleaning. You’ve probably been putting off cleaning out the garage or basement. But there is no better time — or opportunity — to get rid of that broken lawnmower that’s been taking up room in your garage or that old metal filing cabinet sitting in the corner of your basement than right now. You’ll be benefiting by gaining valuable space — and the Peachtree Corners Baptist Church high school choir gains too.
In cooperation with the Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful’s “Gwinnett Challenge: Great American Cleanup” project the PCBC’s high school choir is recycling metals to raise funds for their upcoming mission trips.
The church has a large collection bin at its Peachtree Corners campus for the community to drop off large and small metal items to be recycled.
You may deposit ferrous metals such as iron and steel (if a magnet sticks to it, it’s ferrous metal). The following are acceptable metals for recycling:
- Water heaters
- Bicycles
- Gutters
- Wheel barrows
- Metal furniture
- Barbecue grills (no sealed propane tanks)
- File cabinets
- Tools, tin
- Metal shelving
- Auto Parts* (including engines, transmissions, wheels – but no tires)
- Appliances* (it doesn’t matter if there are some plastic parts on the appliance)
- Washers, Dryers, compactors
- Refrigerators,* A/C units*
- Lawnmowers*
Please leave lawn mowers behind the bin. A volunteer will remove the gas tank and oil. A/C and refrigerator coils are recycled separately. If they’ve been removed, leave behind the bin for sorting. You may also leave any appliance that might have cooper coils behind the bin so the non-ferrous metals may be removed before placing the item in the bin.

You may donate non-ferrous metals such as brass, cooper and aluminum at the upcoming Peachtree Corners Car Show on Saturday, April 30.
A few recycling rules: to comply with local, state and federal safety and environmental laws, prepare your scrap for recycling by removing batteries or pieces of batters, gas tanks, tires, oil and oil filters, unspent airbag canisters and other explosive materials.

In addition to ferrous metals, the church is accepting aluminum cans and paper for recycling. All recycling bins are located on the church campus. Enter the parking lot at the main entrance on Peachtree Corners Circle and take an immediate left. The recycling receptacles are straight ahead in the corner of the parking lot.
