Less Teens are Playing Sports—But One Sport is Defying the Odds
Dunwoody High School students are taking notice.
Despite the physical and mental health benefits, research shows that as children enter their teens, participation in sports and other physical activities drops significantly. The exception to this—beach volleyball (also referred to as sand volleyball). Participation in beach volleyball among teens has tripled over the last few years. It is one of the fastest growing sports for high school students and the fastest growing emerging sport in NCAA history. Several parks around the metro area, such as Johns Creek, are jumping in to support the growing interest in this family-friendly sport (which is great for all ages) by building beach courts in local parks.
Dunwoody High School (DHS) volleyball players are taking notice and working with the city to encourage them to build beach volleyball courts in Dunwoody.
