Georgia junior left-handed pitcher Kevin Smith has been selected by the New York Mets in the seventh round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday.
Smith, a 6-5, 233-pound native of Dunwoody, Ga., led the 2018 squad to an NCAA Regional with an 8-1 record and 3.69 ERA in 22 appearances including seven starts. In 63.1 innings, he tallied 79 strikeouts, 25 walks and held opponents to a .233 batting average. In his final two starts of the regular season, Smith beat No. 1 Florida 4-1 in Gainesville, Fla., and No. 6 Arkansas 3-2 in Athens.
