Holy Innocents’ Art To Hang at the High

Michael-Henley-to-postSeventy-five works of art from every division of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School (HIES) will be displayed in a High Museum of Art public exhibition for six weeks, from April 1 – May 11. The exhibition also includes artworks from Westminster.

“Having a piece of work of art in a major art museum is an outstanding accomplishment—one that most people will never experience,” said Judie Jacobs, a professional artist and Upper School art teacher. “This is an enviable and privileged position to be in.

“Holy Innocents’ boasts that 75 of our young artists from Primary School to Upper School are in an envious and privileged position to have their artwork featured in an affiliate show.”

The event is part of Holy Innocents’ three-year academic affiliation with the High Museum. Sponsored by the school’s Fine Arts Alliance, this partnership allows HIES students and faculty to enjoy behind-the-scenes access to exhibitions, curators and educational staff during the school year. Free entrance for field trips, professional development opportunities, student internship opportunities, and donated catalogs from all exhibitions are just some of the privileges this partnership provides.

Guests will also be able to tour the current High exhibits the same day: “Go West!” or “Abelardo Morell: The Universe Next Door.”

At Holy Innocents’, students from Early Learners (3-year-olds) through the 12th grade participate in art classes, exploring a wide variety of media and techniques, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, computer graphic design, ceramics and sculpture. In addition, HIES student artists also study art history and are given ample opportunities to participate in exhibitions, on-campus and off.
