Georgia’s 511 System is fantastic and free!

The 511 call-in phone system is a fantastic free service that I thought you might want to share.

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), which feeds the now-expanded 511 Georgia information network, gives you real-time situations on Georgia’s highways, freeways and streets in more geographic areas and faster updating in all the others. Program it into your mobile phone, but the service can also be accessed from your landline, smart phone (using the new 511Live app from their web site ), or your computer (www.511ga.org). Call 511 to get real time traffic information from a live person as you travel and come up on a traffic situation, congestion, incident and accident. And the best news is it’s FREE. Not only can you obtain traffic information, you can also report an incident (statewide), request HERO (Highway Emergency Response Operators) motorist assistance or to be transferred to 511-type systems in Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee.
