Former Dunwoody Resident Commits to Rhodes College for Lacrosse

Patrick Doud Patrick Doud, a two-time all-state senior defenseman, former Brine All-America and 2015-2016 captain for the Mountain Brook (AL) Varsity Lacrosse Team, has committed to Rhodes College (Memphis, TN) to continue his lacrosse career.  Patrick attended Vanderlyn Elementary and Wesleyan School when he lived in Dunwoody.  He was also a member of the Atlanta Colts from 2008-2009.

Patrick (son of Leigh and Brian Doud) is a three-year starter on defense for the Spartans.  In 2014, he recorded 40 ground balls and 10 take-aways and was named to the All-State Team as a sophomore. As a junior, he was elected Team Captain and led the team with 73 ground balls and 65 take-aways while scoring 1 goal and dishing out 5 assists on the season.  In 2015, Patrick was named once more to the All-State team.  At the start of the 2016 season, he was selected again to be a Team Captain.

 

During the signing ceremony at Mountain Brook High School, Patrick took the opportunity to thank the many coaches for whom he had played.  “I’d like to thank Coach Tom Clark who gave me my first opportunity to play for BamaLax.  I would also like to thank Coach Randy Nace for his coaching and instruction during my two summers playing for his BamaLax team.  I also want to thank Coach Brent Yarborough for giving me my first starting position at Mountain Brook.  I want to give a special ‘thank you’ to my dad for being my coach.  And, most importantly, I want to thank my mom for her love and support – none of this would have happened without her.”

 

Patrick has accepted a Presidential Scholarship to attend Rhodes.  He maintains a 4.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), is ranked in the Top 5% of his class and is a member of the National Honor Society.

 

“As his lacrosse coach for the past decade, I take great pride in Patrick’s lacrosse success,” said Brian Doud, Head Coach of the Mountain Brook Varsity Lacrosse team, “for his success is a tribute to hard work, perseverance and dedication which now provides him the opportunity to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.  As a parent, his mother and I are very proud of his academic achievements which have enabled him to continue his education at one of our nation’s best liberal arts colleges.  Coach Zazzaro at Rhodes is getting one of our finest student-athletes.”

 

Rhodes College competes in NCAA Division III lacrosse in the Southern Athletic Association.  Mountain Brook competes in Division I lacrosse in the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association.
