City Schools Decatur hired veteran DeKalb County teacher and administrator Johnathan Clark as the new principal at Renfroe Middle School. Clark was chosen from 37 candidates who applied, a list whittled down to four finalists last week. The final choice was made by Superintendent Phyllis Edwards, who announced her decision and introduced Clark at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
Clark, 46, is currently the director of research, assessment and grants for DeKalb County Schools, with a particular expertise Edwards said in measuring student academic progress. In fact, all of his education background is in DeKalb. He was a principal at both McLendon Elementary and Dunwoody Elementary and an assistant principal at Dunwoody High. He’s also been a middle- and high-school teacher.
