Upon declaring that we were giving up Buford Highway for lent and going for seafood options, Audra and I have been tinkering with a fun, spring food theme. One of the major benefits of living in a thriving ‘burb of an amazing city is the limitless creative options of ways to graze. Since food trucks have become extremely popular in the past few years, Audra and I agreed that it would be fun to check out the cornucopia of possibilities out there. Snap! In walks Paige Nathan from The Food Movement with a kind invitation to check out the food truck business that she and fellow Dunwoody resident, Paul McKeon, and two others, have been passionately growing for several years.
For those readers who have never indulged in the food truck experience, here’s a picture of what to expect…a small mini airstream type vehicle equipped with a limited variety of offerings that have been prepped and cooked off site ready for a fresh and delicious point of service offering. Each truck has a unique theme and cuisine to offer.
Knowing that we were in a fish lent mode, The Food Movement executive chef created an amazing menu for us to enjoy. We thoroughly enjoyed Hail Caesar salmon wraps, grilled portabella sandwiches, tangy Cuban sandwiches, home-made potato chips and a kale salad with so much flavor that you can’t even believe it is still healthy. Each sandwich and salad had it’s own perfect complementary sauce and was extremely fresh.
One key learning that came from this experience was the attention to detail and quality of product that is delivered from every food truck. The executive chef oversees the entire process and ensures that an excellent product is delivered. I admit I was always a bit intimidated by eating food from trucks because I was never comfortable with their quality control. Now that I know each truck has its own health inspection and rating similar to any restaurant, I am anxious to seek out more exotic offerings such as sushi, fried oysters and more.
The Food Movement is a fun Dunwoody business with so many options for consumers. I feel very fortunate to reside in The Branches, a lively and social neighborhood, where we have a food truck every Friday night at the pool in the summer that my kids won’t let us miss. Check out The Food Movement website for their catering, corporate challenges and more. My dear friends, Kristen and Jon, are even considering a food truck reception for their summer wedding! How fun!
Next time you are at a Brook Run Food Truck Thursday night outing, festival or shindig where food trucks are available, dig in and know that you are in good hands if The Food Movement is involved!
Salud!
Until we eat again!
