As a service to the entire Dunwoody community, Dunwoody United Methodist Church is hosting “Hear the Candidates” on Sunday, October 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. This is an opportunity for Dunwoody residents to see and hear the candidates running for Dunwoody City Council in the November 5 election.
All eight Dunwoody City Council candidates have been invited to participate in this non-partisan community forum to share their position and vision for the Dunwoody community. Each candidate will be asked the same question in random order on fiscal, green space, transportation and public safety issues. They also will be given time for brief closing remarks. To maintain impartiality, the event will be moderated by a professional who is not a Dunwoody resident.
“Our members identified this opportunity to provide a needed community service by facilitating a non-partisan event to educate the residents of Dunwoody,” said Anne West, DUMC member and Church Council Chairman. “We are delighted that the candidates see the importance of presenting themselves to the community in this impartial format.”
“While we as a church certainly don’t endorse any one candidate or view point, we do want to do our part to help the community,” said Dr. B. Wiley Stephens, Senior Pastor. “Whether we’re helping others through a program like ‘Hear the Candidates,’ our Great Day of Service outreach ministry or selling pumpkins to support our Youth programs, we are committed to serving this community.”
The public is invited to attend the free event, which will be held in the church Fellowship Hall on the 2nd floor of the Activity Building. Dunwoody Methodist is at 1548 Mount Vernon Road, just west of Chamblee Dunwoody Road. For more information or directions, visit www.dunwoodyumc.org.
