The five-acre Park at 50 Perimeter Center East will feature the City’s first splash pad and connect to the Dunwoody Trailway.
Dunwoody, GA – July 25, 2022 – Dunwoody Parks and Recreation and members of the Dunwoody City Council broke ground today on a new park in Perimeter Center. The five-acre park at 50 Perimeter Center East will feature the City’s first splash pad, a playground, small and large pavilions, restroom facilities, exercise equipment, and trails.
“We’ve had a need for a park in Perimeter Center since the City was incorporated,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “Thousands of Dunwoody residents will finally have easy access to green space and park amenities.”
This park was supposed to be built in 2020 with hotel/motel taxes to provide a draw for tourists, as well as a key amenity for Perimeter residents. But when that funding dried up during the pandemic, plans were put on hold. In March 2022, The Dunwoody City Council approved using American Rescue Plan funding to get the project back on track.
The total budget for the project is $3 million. Construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2022. The splash pad will open in time to provide relief from next year’s hot summer months.
“In addition to providing great new amenities, this park will also support our goal of connectivity since it will tie into the Dunwoody Trailway and pedestrian bridge over the North Fork of Nancy Creek,” said Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Director Brent Walker. “We’re happy to get started.”
Dunwoody Parks and Recreation is currently soliciting naming ideas for this park and two other future parks in the City. Ideas can be submitted through July 31 by emailing parks@dunwoodyga.gov. Naming rules can be found in the latest edition of the Dunwoody Digest.
