  1. There should be a small box for comments. I have two…
    1. The size of the containers are inadequate. Look at Fulton County…my son lives in Johns Creek and those trash cans are at least 1 1/2 the size of ours. This size was fine for 2 days per week…not one. Some homes have different personal needs for extra trash…babies, other needs, etc. These are inadequate.

    2. When Dunwoody was going for city hood, I distinctly remember the question being asked about 2x/wk trash collection. This was a promise made to us.

  2. I think the survey question is flawed. There wasn’t an option to maintain the status quo. IF 2 day pickup were to remain then the cost would go up. So, a better question would be – Would you prefer one day a week pick up or two day pick up at a higher cost. The service we receive is superior to any outside vendor for the price we pay DeKalb. Personally, for me, one day a week is fine but may require homeowners to develop so better habits. I’m always disheartened but the amount of trash I see at the curb that could be recycled or donated. Stinky trash can be minimized by sealing it up in a bread bag you’re disposing of anyway. If you have stinky meat or fish scraps dump it all in a bag in the freezer and toss it on trash day. I’m just amazed by the depth of people’s anger by this cost and environmental savings move by DeKalb.

  3. Yes, I too agree with Jeanne Craft comments below by donating usable trash (i.e. mowers, weedeaters, blowers, broken chairs/tables, toys etc) even if defective to: akspickup.org (American Kidney Services (AKS)) or another charity that will take these type donations as AKS does. Not exaggerating but, I see “tons” of useful items left for our landfills. 🙁

  4. For the past two weeks our garbage (and two of our neighbors’ garbage) has not been picked up. Drive down Mt. Vernon, you will see it is still sitting there today. The paperwork that came with the green trash bin stated our pickup day was Tuesday. After being skipped for pickup two weeks in a row, we called the Sanitation Department on Wednesday morning. They said “Your pickup day is Wednesday, but we’ll send someone out.” Thursday morning it still had not been picked up, and another person at the Sanitation Department told us “Your pickup day is Thursday, but we’ll send someone out.” Today is Friday, and it still has not been picked up. Our recycling and yard scraps was picked up on Tuesday, but not the garbage. So no, my vote is that I absolutely do NOT like the one day per week sanitation schedule.

  5. For anyone who is interested (taking it not many are by the lack of comments on the post), the garbage was finally picked up on Friday afternoon. This week is shaping up to be the same – our scheduled pickup was missed again on Tuesday. I spoke with another representative this morning, who told me our pickup for recycling is Tuesday, and garbage is Thursday. Interesting, since we are on a once a week pickup…
