Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is a time to honor and remember departed family members and ancestors. From pre-Columbian times, the Day of the Dead has been celebrated throughout Mexico and Latin American countries. Remembrances include family visits to the local cemetery, processions through town squares, foods, dance, music, and special offerings at homemade altars honoring departed family members with photographs, mementos, pan de muerto sweet bread, candles, sugar skulls, and cempasúchil (marigold) flowers.
