DeKalb County School’s Eat Local initiative

New this year, Dekalb County schools are offering a locally-grown produce item in all Dekalb schools one day each month.  For October, the local produce item was Georgia Granny Smith Apples which were served in school cafeterias all over Dekalb County on October 26.  Students at some schools are working to promote these locally grown fruits and vegetables to their fellow students.  To see photos and read more about this effort at Chesnut Charter Elementary, check out http://chesnutforchange.wordpress.com/2011/10/27/keeping-the-doctor-away/

The locally grown produce item for November will be Georgia Sweet Potatoes, which will be served in all Dekalb County cafeterias on November 16.
