Chamblee Dunwoody Road Paving UpdateThe city continues to compel the Chamblee Dunwoody Road water main replacement contractor to complete necessary repairs under warranty. The city recognizes the tedious nature of the repair work and the recent wet weather have resulted in an extended impact on the driving public. Numerous options have been explored for expediting the work and the city is confident that the repair methods being employed, while time consuming, will preserve the long term integrity of the pavement. The contractor has completed the work on the southbound lane of Chamblee Dunwoody Road between Nerine Circle and Springfield Drive. The crews will conduct spot repairs along the northbound lane of Chamblee Dunwoody Road and this work is projected to continue until early August. Progress is contingent upon weather and recent rains have resulted in a number of days where no work could occur. The improvements along Chamblee Dunwoody Road included the widening of Chamblee Dunwoody Road, from Cambridge Drive to Womack Road, to accommodate bicycle lanes in both directions, the addition of new sidewalk on the east side of the road and replacement of stormwater ditches with stormwater pipes, curb, and gutter. This project also incorporated the water main replacement by DeKalb County (as designed by DeKalb County) between Cambridge Drive and Roberts Drive. The city is withholding the contractor’s final payment until the repair work is completed at the contractor’s expense. Motorists are asked to use caution when driving through the area and to use alternate routes if possible due to temporary lane closures during the day. Any required lane closures will be scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. weekdays to limit the impact on resident access.
