Book of the Week: Into the Water (We’re giving away a hardcover copy!)

One of my favorite girls from the DHS Class of 2017 texted me the following note from Athens this week:

“Read a really good book recently I thought you might like!  It’s called INTO THE WATER by Paula Hawkins.  Elizabeth (her roomie) and I both read it and were obsessed.”

Christy knows how much I love to read and we used to share books all the time before she moved to UGA. … Read More »

I was in my attic last night gathering up all of our Christmas decorations and of course what I was looking for was in the very last box I checked.  Alas, today is the first day of advent and I needed to find my Jesse Tree book!   I stumbled upon this book in a pre-school workshop at Peachtree Road UMC in 2002. … Read More »

Book of the Week: Irresistible by Andy Stanley

I told someone this week that I’ve been addicted to Andy Stanley podcasts lately.   I literally listened to his 4 part series “The Bible for Grown-Ups” in one afternoon.   Now I’ve moved on to reading his latest book: Irresistible: Reclaiming the New that Jesus Unleashed for the World.   I realize this book won’t be interesting to all of my subscribers, but both the Bible for Grown-Ups podcast series and his Irresistible book are well worth mentioning for our readers who are interested in how the Bible, as we know it, came to be……..… Read More »

Book of the Week by a Local Author: Out of Sight Out of Mind – A Madman’s Journal

A local Dunwoody businessman, who is also from my home state of Alabama, contacted me recently and asked me if I’d like to have a copy of his book to read.   Once I read the synopsis I immediately agreed to add it to my list of books to read.  I haven’t read it yet but wanted to go ahead and let you know about it in case you’d like to get a copy of your own.     Here’s the synopsis from Amazon:   Out Of Sight Out Of Mind: A Madman’s Journal is the memoir of a longtime businessman who was prosecuted and convicted for his debts following the great recession.… Read More »

Book of the Week: Something in the Water

I’ve been in my car a lot lately driving my baby on college tours and visiting my big boy in college. I love my little car by the way.  It has an awesomely long sunroof, it is small and easy to park, I can talk to text with it so easily,  but my most favorite thing of all is that it works with Apple Car Play and reads books from my phone to me!… Read More »
