In November I chose Mary Kubica’s debut novel, The Good Girl as “my book” to host my neighborhood book club discussion. We all loved it and you can see our review here. One of my neighbors liked it so much that she immediately purchased Kubica’s 2nd novel and shared it with me when she finished. I finally picked it up about two weeks ago and breezed through it in about 7 days. It was suspenseful, twisty, and bizarre. I can’t wait to see what Kubica comes up with next!
With that said, I thought The Good Girl was phenomenal while Pretty Baby was “pretty good”. Pretty Baby tells the story of a wife/mother (Heidi) who brings home a homeless girl (Willow) and her 4 month old baby girl. Heidi’s husband (Chris) and daughter are shocked, disgusted, and terrified. Kubica takes you through zigs and zags and twists and turns as she reveals the histories of Heidi, Chris and Willow. Its an interesting, shocking and sometimes sad tale that will be a good read for those who love psychological thrillers.
