Wendy Wax books are always an excellent choice for the beach so when she gave me an advance copy of her upcoming book just before I headed to the gulf, I was thrilled! I don’t want to give away too much of the story but I want to point out that near the beginning of the book these friends are all in the hospital rooting for someone to recover from a brain injury. Unfortunately I was recently in this same situation with a dear friend so I could immediately relate and felt drawn to these friends right away.
As I mentioned last week, I read 3 young adult books on the same beach trip so when I started reading A Week at the Lake these female characters from my generation were so relatable. I immediately fell in love with Mackenzie, Emma, and Serena and could visualize myself hanging out with them regularly. I love the way Wendy weaves the individual stories of these three women separately and then back together all throughout the book. She prepares you well for the shock at the end and ties the drama up brilliantly.
Wendy Wax lives in Roswell and I’ve gotten to know her because she has graciously spoken at two of my Meadowlake Book Club meetings. I love her Ten Beach Road series and will never forget our best book club ever when Wendy came to talk to us about While We Were Watching Downton Abbey.
Guess what? You can celebrate the debut of A WEEK AT THE LAKE with me and Wendy!
