Following nearly 15 months of construction and a vision that dates back to 2007, a lot that once housed trailers used for a private high school on Womack Road is now home to Berman Commons, a 90-unit assisted living and memory care community. Welcoming residents from all religious and ethnic backgrounds, Berman Commons is a locally based operation, managed by Jewish Home Life Communities (JHLC), a non-profit organization which has been caring for seniors since 1951.

Welcoming the public to attend, the grand opening of Berman Commons on Sunday, March 8, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM, celebrates a community effort among Dunwoody and Sandy Springs residents, who led the project on behalf of JHLC to ensure that the building would be a beautiful new addition to the Dunwoody landscape. Along with Steve Berman for whom Berman Commons is named, and longtime Dunwoody resident and Project Manager Joe Rubin, other members of the leadership team were Jerry Weiner, David Weiss, Fred Halperin and Bob London. Sunday’s festivities include a giveaway of two theatre packages for dinner and upcoming shows at The Fox Theatre.

Located on Womack Road across from Georgia Perimeter College and connected by a walking path to the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA), Berman Commons has 90 studio and one-bedroom apartments, 32 of which are within a secure Ackerman Memory Care neighborhood. Based upon individual requirements, all residents receive a wide range of support services, particularly designed for older adults who need some level of assistance with activities of daily living.

“We are so excited to become actively involved in the Dunwoody area,” says Berman Commons Executive Director Jenice Cunningham. “In addition to welcoming residents and their families, we are eager to serve as an information resource for the greater community. Likewise, we are seeking volunteers of all ages to visit—school and performance groups, community and civic organizations, and others who would like to spend time getting to know our residents. Berman Commons is designed as an active community, and we plan to have fun.”

Already, Berman Commons, known for gorgeous design, first-class accommodations and an extraordinary kosher dining program, is filling up quickly. More than two-thirds of the apartments were reserved during the construction period. Proximity to the MJCCA is a draw to many, and encouraging an active lifestyle, Berman Commons pays for each resident’s MJCCA membership to enable use of the facilities and extensive programs. Equally important is Berman Commons’ affiliation to the five-star rated William Breman Jewish Home and Aviv Rehabilitation Center.
