Entry #8
The answer is short and sweet (literally). Beth
UFC Gym bugged me for over a year offering to let me try anything and everything that they offered for fitness. I gained a ton of weight last summer due to an unexpected illness and REALLY wanted to lose weight but there was nothing anyone could do to get me to self-motivate to go to a gym and workout. I would rather have gone on a mega-diet and become a little more physical on my own by walking my dog more often or walking and listening to Audible….
I would find myself chanting a specific Veggie Tales Tune anytime I thought I needed to work out but had “other things to do”. “I’m busy, busy, dreadfully busy. You’ve no idea what I have to do….!
The way UFC finally hooked me was to offer sessions for me (AND A FRIEND). When Beth said she’d do it I wondered how long either of us would last. We are both amazed that we can’t imagine our lives without a few visits to the gym each week.
I realized just how important Beth is to my level of commitment when she went to Hilton Head for a week in June. I thought for sure I’d go to a class or two while she was gone. Guess how many classes I attended while she was at the beach? NOT A SINGLE ONE. However, when she got back home I knew I had a commitment to her and Jose so I was darn sure not going to miss our scheduled workouts.
I thought I’d die after a week of not working out. Jose nearly killed us after our “break” but it felt so good!
Beth and I are taking a break from our personal sessions with Jose after this week due to crazy summer schedules. However, because I know Beth will hold me accountable…I’ll be there regularly for group classes with her and I’ll LOVE it! We’ve committed to chat at the beginning of each week and find at least two classes to attend together.
So why do I keep doing this? ….Because even though I’ll break a commitment to myself I will not break a commitment to a friend. Especially not my short and sweet friend, Beth!
