Sandy Springs, Ga, May 15, 2013 – Heritage Sandy Springs will kick off its new happy hour concert series, Rhythm & Brews, with an outdoor concert by Atlanta bluegrass band Seven Handle Circus on Thursday, May 30 at Heritage Green. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with the concert from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Formed in 2010, Seven Handle Circus is a six-piece Georgia band that has been critically acclaimed as “grass n’ roll” with the “drive and energy of a rock band.” During their legendary live performances they push the limits of human endurance, exciting the audience and getting all on their feet to dance. Elements of rock, punk and alternative infuse their shows and they have even rocked crowds with rappers such as T-Pain & Yung Joc. In 2012, Grammy Award winner Mumford & Sons invited the band to play at The Fox Theater in Atlanta after the platinum-selling Englishmen just happened upon an acoustic set 7HC was playing at the bar next door to the historic theater.
“We are ecstatic to kick off the new happy hour series Rhythm & Brews with Atlanta band Seven Handle Circus.” said Rebekah Henry Murphy, Heritage Sandy Springs Special Events Director. “Seven Handle Circus represents the very best of up-and-coming bands from the Southeast; their musicality, training, and raw energy combine to create incredible synergy in their live performances.”
On their debut EP, Whiskey Stills & Sleeping Pills, Seven Handle Circus draws from their love of traditional bluegrass and folk and distills these influences into a modern sound that is all their own. With themes ranging from the fun of youth to the complexities of life, Seven Handle Circus shares the beauty of the music they love, along with plenty of new surprises.
The band is already following in the footsteps of some wildly successful alternative acts that use elements of bluegrass to create a modern style of music. Whiskey Stills & Sleeping Pills was recorded in Asheville, NC at Echo Mountain studio, whose clients include cutting-edge artists like the Avett Brothers. Last May, the band headlined Chattanooga, Tennessee’s acclaimed Nightfall Concert Series, where Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and Nickel Creek played before breaking wide open.
The band members, all of whom began playing as young children and have formal training, are accomplished musicians, and they display this faithfully with their tight performances and fluent picking.
Sparked by the success of its previous happy hour music series, Wind Down Wednesdays, and by growing audience request to present more regional acts, Heritage Sandy Springs announced the summer concert series and its newest endeavor, Rhythm & Brews, in April. For five years, Heritage Sandy Springs presented the popular mid-week concert series, Wind Down Wednesdays. Now the community nonprofit is shaking things up with the open-air happy hour series that invites a young and diverse audience to kick back and gather on summer evening after work, enjoying live regional in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Rhythm & Brews embraces regional roots, presenting four acts in a variety of musical genres. The open-air concerts will be held May through August on the last Thursday of each month at The Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn at Heritage Green, 6110 Bluestone Road, Sandy Springs. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the concerts 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for ages 21 and up, $2 for ages 13-20, free for ages 12 and under.
