There are many words I could use to describe this movie: quirky, imaginative, sweet, strange….but the most conclusive word I have is SNOOZER. My brother and I both literally had to find methods to keep ourselves awake. I had to keep shaking my head from side to side to try and snap out of my nap and this NEVER happens to me! Interestingly enough, we were at a matinee, so it wasn’t like we were tired from a long day.
It wasn’t terrible….the story was quite cute and the ending was sweet and wonderful. The scenery is beautiful and it was one of the rare movies that didn’t have anything in it that would have offended me to see in front of my children.
The music was soothing and the story slow to start which is probably what sent my body into sleep mode. My brother promised me he would watch the original 1947 version with Danny Kaye. I’ll update this post with any relevant updates from his review of that version. Sorry Ben Stiller….but I just didn’t love this one.
