Peggy and I were recently invited to spend the morning at the newest automated spa in Dunwoody. I’ll be honest, until Wednesday I had no idea what an “automated spa” was and thought this place was a tanning salon. I’ll tell you the name in a minute but first let me tell you about our morning….
We were greeted by the fantastic duo of Adrienne and Nick with the choice of fresh fruit water or mimosas. We chose the fresh fruit water and it was so refreshing that I had to go home and re-create the recipe for my book club that night! We went from the waiting room to the relaxation room and tried all three chairs (the full body massage chair, the heated holistic healing bed and the zero gravity chair). My favorite was the full body massage chair. There are special compartments for your hands and feet and the chair even massages your fingers and toes! It was AWESOME!
Next Peggy and I alternated the hyrdro derma fusion and facial red light therapy experiences. Lying in the hydro derma fusion machine is sort of like hopping into a tanning bed but it starts out cool then turns up the heat. This was one of my faves but Peggy got a little claustrophobic. This particular 20 minute experience included radiant heat and steam, along with soothing massage and aromatherapy. All from one machine! The red light therapy for your face improves your skin’s texture and tone. We saw some before and after acne photos that were amazing.
Adrienne gave me a sauna suit to wear before I hopped into the Saunatox. It was thinner than cheesecloth but fit like over-sized footie pajamas. The Saunatox was my favorite experience and the one that will take me back for more visits. It uses infrared technology to penetrate deep into the skin and muscle tissue to deliver comforting heat. Plus you sweat off a ton of calories while you just sit and sweat! To top that all off, it is dry heat so you can bring in your phone or laptop and work or do like I did and watch Blue Bloods (or your favorite show) on Netflix.
I’m not typically a tanning bed user but since the name of this automated spa is….Planet Beach, I thought I should do short 5 minute stint in the UV tanning bed. They tell me it triggers chemicals that promote a positive mood. Perhaps it is true because I left Planet Beach very happy!
Here’s the kicker….for a very reasonable monthly fee (~$59) you can enjoy unlimited services. This means that you can go every day of the month for 10 minutes or all day for that one low price. Perfect for those moms with carpool nearby (DUMC, DBC, Austin, DES, Vanderlyn, Dunwoody Prep, DCA etc.)! Have a few minutes before you need to get in line at carpool? Stop by and sit in the relaxation chair, tan for a few minutes, or sweat in the Saunatox and get caught up on your Netflix binge! Peggy and I will be back! Don’t let the name fool you…this is not a tanning salon. This is a really cool automated spa that offers affordable treatments and is very conveniently located in the heart of Dunwoody!
