For the third year in a row, the Dunwoody Preservation Trust Lemonade Days Festival will hold its popular “Dunwoody Idol” competition, a showcase for local high-school singing talent and the winner of the Battle of the Bands. Acceptance into the Dunwoody Idol show is by audition only for both singers and bands.
Auditions will be held at the historic 1870 Donaldson-Bannister House and Gardens on March 18, 12 noon till 3:00 pm, to select ten singing finalists and one band.
The ten singing finalists will compete in the Dunwoody Idol competition on Saturday, April 21, during the Lemonade Days Festival. That night, a panel of three judges will select the 2018 Dunwoody Idol winner and a runner-up. A crowd favorite will also be chosen by audience vote.
On the night of the Dunwoody Idol competition, the winner of the March 18 Battle of Bands competition will perform a 45-minute set on stage immediately preceding the competition.
The Dunwoody Idol winner and the Battle of the Bands winner will each be awarded a full-service session of professional recording time to produce one finished track, plus a featured appearance at a young artists musical review to be staged at a local venue in the fall. The Dunwoody Idol winner will also be invited to return as a featured performer on the 2019 Lemonade Days Festival stage. The Dunwoody Idol runner-up will also perform at the fall musical review.
Hair and makeup on the night of the contest will be provided to contestants by Bernadette’s Hair Salon, with clothing by Jilli Boutique.
To audition for Dunwoody Idol, contestants must be 12-21 years old and pre-register at mark@dunwoodymusic.com or on the Dunwoody Idol tab at lemoandedays.org. The audition fee is $5.00, which also includes a Dunwoody Idol T-shirt.
The Lemonade Days Festival is the major fundraiser of the Dunwoody Preservation Trust (DPT), with the profits going to the rehabilitation and maintenance of the historic 1870 Donaldson-Bannister House and Gardens – an historic restoration partnership of the City of Dunwoody, DPT and the community. This year also marks the official opening of the Donaldson-Bannister House as a public special-event and educational facility. This year the five-day festival runs April 18 through April 22.
