25 Activities at the Nature Center to Celebrate 25 Years of Inspiring a Love of Nature

  1. First Saturday programming – every first Saturday of each month, we’ll feature a free, season themed program led by one of our educators.
  2. Drop in Weekends – Can’t make the first Saturday program? Drop by any other weekend for “Grab ‘n’ Go” activities.
  3. Wildcat Creek Restoration – Come and see the improved Wildcat Creek (Ribbon Cutting March 10).
  4. Play Me Again Piano – While you are visiting the creek,

    come make some music of your own on “Bennet” a public art piano right in the heart of our meadow

  5. Wine on the deck – Join your friends and the experts from Vino Venue to two wine tasting on the best patio in Dunwoody (March 15 and March 29)
  6. Gather: a community dining experience – Looking for an even bigger night to celebrate – join your neighbors for a farm-to-table style dinner catered by Alons (March 26).
  7. Earth Day Weekend: Hike, Astronomy, Yoga, Paint Recycling – Celebrate Mother Earth all weekend long with a Night Hike and Astronomy program, morning yoga, overnight campout and our annual paint recycling event.
  8. A bigger Butterfly Festival – The annual Butterfly Festival expands this year with the addition of a 3rd butterfly tent so guest will have more space and even longer to linger with the butterflies.
  9. Volunteer appreciation day – Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Nature Center, from our founding to the current day so we’ll celebrate our volunteers with their own special day in the park.
  10. Art in the Park – We’ll bring the whole community together with a public art exhibit and community building event call “Community Rocks” with opening day planned for October 28
  11. This fall, enjoy spending even more time hanging out in the trees with the addition of “Tentsiles” – part tent, part treehouse.
  12. Pavilion – We’re planning big things and trying to accommodate the demand for more places to gather, learn and celebrate at the Nature Center. The North Woods Pavilion will be just the place.
  13. Leave your mark during your visit with our interactive chalk wall.
  14. We’ve added even more concerts in the park with 6 shows this summer and the Jewish Music Festival on Sunday, March 12.
  15. We are thrilled to collaborate with Dunwoody’s own Stage Door Players for Theater in the Park this fall with a spooky history of Dunwoody during the play, Legends and Lore.
  16. For the first time, we are offering Summer Camp scholarships to families in need – thanks to the support of our partners from the Dunwoody Rotary Club.
  17. Looking for a bit more of adventure? Travel with the Nature Center to the Len Foote Hike Inn, November 11th. We’ll have a block of 20 rooms reserved just for Nature Center supporters.
  18. Have you visited our new website? It fast, easy to navigate, and chock full of all the latest information on what’s happening in the park.
  19. The entire community is welcome to our 25 year reunion party – planned for October 28.
  20. We are expanding the reach and impact of the Milkweed Project by extending the program throughout the state at elementary schools, and right here at home at several retirement and assisted living communities.
  21. Coming soon, we’ll be adding lights to the Meadow to make sure our guests are safe and to allow for even more evening and nighttime activities.
  22. This summer we’ll be adding even more interpretive signage in the park so that our visitors can learn about the natural world and the various habitats of Dunwoody Park.
  23. The Tap into Georgia Beer Festival returns to Brook Run Park on May 20th with a much bigger and better festival that will showcase the latest and greatest Georgia brewers.
  24. We’ve expanded our camp offering with an additional camp week at Island Ford on the Chattahoochee River.
  25. This spring, we’ll be bringing back a working demonstration beehive and will be enhancing our teepee classroom area.
