Davis Academy Graduation Features Alumni Rhodes Scholar

Graduation-Leah The Davis Academy Class of 2016 took the stage on the evening of Thursday, June 2 to receive their graduating diplomas. The 59 eighth graders, many of whom had attended The Davis Academy since their pre-kindergarten (Mechina) or Kindergarten year, were encouraged by alumni speaker Leah Michalove (Class of 2008) to value one of the most important lessons that students learn at The Davis Academy: the courage to ask questions.
Michalove, a 2016 graduate of Emory University, was one of just 32 college students in the United States to be named a Rhodes Scholars this year. Her scholarship will give her the opportunity to do graduate study in her field of anthropology at the prestigious Oxford University in Oxford, England over the next two years.
Michalove ended her address to The Davis Academy Class of 2016 with these inspiring words: “My wish for you… is that your questions beg more questions, that those questions propel you to action, and that your curiosity drives you to not only investigate the world, but begin to improve it, building, however, slowly, the world as you feel it should be.”
The Class of 2016 is The Davis Academy’s 17th graduating class whose members are now part of a group of nearly 900 Davis Academy graduates.
In one more note, this year’s ceremony had the historic distinction of being the last Davis Academy graduation to be held in the school’s Middle School gymnasium. Next year, the Class of 2017 will celebrate its graduation ceremony in the school’s new theater and auditorium, currently under construction at The Davis Academy Lower School campus.
The Davis Academy serves students four-years of age through eighth grade at its two state-of-the-art campuses in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area.
