LIFELONG SANDY SPRINGS RESIDENT, PILOT ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR CITY COUNCIL SANDY SPRINGS, GA. – Lifelong Sandy Springs citizen and Delta airline pilot, Joe Houseman, has announced his candidacy for city council in Sandy Spring’s third municipal district. Current District Three Councilman Graham McDonald recently announced he would not seek re-election in order to qualify for state house. “After thoughtful consideration, many prayers and an outpouring of encouragement from my friends and family, I am excited to announce my candidacy for city council,” stated Houseman. “As a lifelong resident of Sandy Springs, I have watched our community evolve into one of the nation’s premier destinations to live, work, play and retire,” said Houseman. “Now, more than ever, we must work to protect Sandy Springs’s legacy for the next generation,” continued Houseman. “I will work aggressively to continue to enhance our quality of life, support local businesses and safeguard our values.” Houseman attended Heards Ferry Elementary School and graduated from Riverwood High School in 1989. Following graduation, he earned a degree in business administration from The Citadel. For 18 years, Houseman has been employed by Delta Airlines as a pilot. Understanding the importance of community service, Houseman earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Boy Scout Troup 463 in Sandy Springs at the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. He has also served as chairman of the Delta Pilots Charitable Fund, an organization responsible for contributing more than $1 million to children in need. Houseman is also a member of The Society of the Cincinnati, Atlanta area Citadel Club and The Civil Air Patrol (United States Air Force Auxiliary). An avid fisherman, Houseman is the former president of the Pacific Sail Fish Club. Houseman and his wife Merideth reside in River Chase where he has served as a board member of the homeowners’ association. Together with their two children, Hunt and Riley Jane, the family worships at The Church of the Apostles where Houseman has served as both an usher and Sunday school teacher.
