Let me start by telling you that I predict this book (which is Kibler’s first novel) could possibly become as successful as The Help. A major motion picture is already “in development”. I’ve always been a fan of books that alternate the narrative between the past and present day. The elderly Isabelle has asked her hair dresser to escort her from Texas to Ohio for a funeral. As they journey to Cincinnati, Isabelle tells Dorrie the most beautiful and tragic love story about her one true love who happened to be the black son of her family’s housekeeper…in a town where blacks weren’t allowed after dark. I found myself rooting desperately for this star-crossed young couple. You’ll have to read it yourself to find out about the twists and turns of fate and why Isabelle at the age of 89 has dropped everything to attend a funeral back home. I definitely recommend you grab a copy of this book, curl up under a warm blanket and get ready for a great read!
