Emmaus House was founded in 1967 by Father Austin Ford for the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, and the organization has been a consistent presence in the Peoplestown, Turner Field area, neighborhood. Since 1990, St. Bedes Episcopal Church has provided a supplement to Thanksgiving Dinner to families in and around Peoplestown. Families provide documentation of residency and family size and receive a bag of food to help with their Thanksgiving celebration. In addition to the contents of the bag, each family receives a turkey, fresh collards and sweet potatoes, which is possible though private donation from businesses, churches, and other like-minded groups.
Dunwoody High School’s National Honor Society is sponsoring a school wide initiative to help provide Emmaus House with more Thanksgiving Bags so that as many families as possible can be helped. You can help by assembling the items below into a bag, and then bringing it to your fourth period class by November 18. Or bring to the front office if you do not have a student at DHS. Please help us meet our goal of 700 bags for Emmaus House.
