Volunteers needed, participants invited to Brookhaven’s ‘It Starts in the Parks’ 5K race

July is National Parks and Recreation Month, so what better way to celebrate than to get out and run in one of Brookhaven’s parks?

The city’s Parks & Recreation Department is hosting its first 5K, “It Starts in the Parks,” which will go around Blackburn Park, on Saturday, July 18, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Race fees are $35 through July 16, and $40 on-site. Awards for various categories will be presented. Click here for registration form, or go to Active.com.

The department is also seeking about volunteers to help out between the hours of 6:15 to 9:30 a.m. All ages are welcome, and duties include checking in pre-registered participants, taking registration/money for people signing up on-site, manning the corner of a small side street intersection while racers pass by, manning a water table during the race, helping pass out shirts and giving out awards post-race.
