Below is an email I received from Murphey Candler Little League. I’ve been trying to formulate a message to post regarding this topic but my friends on the MCLL Board have done the work for me! I’m not normally political, my favorite color is green, my favorite sport is BASEBALL, and my favorite college is Auburn. My point is that I don’t expect that all (or any) of you will agree with me on any of my choices for favorites or political decisions but I’d like to encourage you to please read this post, talk to your spouse, and if you agree follow the advice regarding ways to help. I’ll be out of town (at a baseball game) otherwise I’d wear all my baseball garb to the meeting on Monday night.

For all of us that are in the process of raising families, making a living, caring for our parents, volunteering at our schools and parks, etc., we rarely have time to get involved in the political process.
However, as a supporter of organized youth sports, and witnesses to how important they are, the MCLL Board of Directors felt it was important to bring an issue to the MCLL family that is caught up in the political process involving youth sports in our area.
As you may have heard, the City of Dunwoody is in the process of determining the final proposal for their city parks. Ultimately, it will be up to the citizens of the City of Dunwoody to determine, via vote, if they want to pay for the final proposal via a bond referendum.
The proposal recommended by the consultants hired by the City of Dunwoody recommended removing the baseball fields from Dunwoody Park (a/k/a Dunwoody Senior Baseball), so that the Nature Center could be expanded, and replacing those fields by installing three baseball fields in Brook Run Park. The consultants did a very thorough job prior to making that recommendation.
Since that time, there has been a very vocal group that has had the time to organize and attend City Council meetings and voice their strong opposition to the installation of these baseball fields.
Since many of your children will continue playing baseball when their time at MCLL has ended, we felt it was important to let you know of three things that you can do if you are in favor of these baseball fields being included at Brook Run in the final proposal.
Here is how to make your voice heard:

Wear a team jersey or t-shirt that reflects participation in a youth baseball program to show your support. Showing up is really important; it can make the difference!
