I love exploring our community. My husband and I will eat anywhere with a good health rating and love it when we find a hidden gem that is close to home. I’ve been selfishly keeping a few of these to myself but it’s time to let y’all know about a few places that we’ve been lately and loved!
Union Hill Kitchen located in downtown Chamblee has proven to be the perfect place to meet my girlfriend Polly for a glass of wine and appetizers after dropping our kids at the DHS Football games. The regular bartender is Lizette and she reminds me so much of Michonne from the Walking Dead…thank goodness she doesn’t carry a sword! The chef is a CNN International and Food Network alumni and the food is scrumptious! My fave menu item is chorizo stuffed dates. The restaurant is small but quaint and has great outdoor seating overlooking historic downtown Chamblee.
Southbound has even better food and a much livelier atmosphere and is just down the road from Union Hill Kitchen in downtown Chamblee. The rustic century old building is beautifully remodeled and the food is fresh, southern and DELICIOUS. The pan roasted chicken with hoppin’ john is AMAZING! I just about died when dining there with my friend Lisa and she didn’t know what hoppin’ john is…..this Alabama girl had to educate my Indiana pal!!
Moving on over from Chamblee to Sandy Springs….
My hubby and I discovered B’s Bistro one night after dropping our son at a bar mitzvah at Heritage Hall in Sandy Springs. We wanted to try something new and just happened to notice all the cars out front. It was crowded so we dined on appetizers at the bar and quickly learned that B’s Bistro on the Circle is a well kept neighborhood secret. Our fave dishes are the southern fried shrimp and also the wrapped asparagus. Yes, it’s in a strip shopping center so not very pretty on the outside but on the inside the ambiance is warm, cozy, and inviting…we will definitely go back!
Finally, two weeks ago the owner of Steve’s Live Music offered me tickets to come check out a show. I can’t believe I hadn’t noticed Steve’s before. It is on Hildebrand in the heart of Sandy Springs and such a unique facility. I must have ridden by a zillion times traveling back and forth between Dunwoody and Holy Innocents’ and never even saw it! We had a blast! The musicians were supremely talented and we could have stayed all night. It was a very casual atmosphere and a great live music venue with no gross cigarette smoke in the air! We will be back for other shows and next time will take friends! One hint I will share with you….eat before you go. They serve food but I will stick to the beverages and music next time.
I like A Royal Affair in Sandy Springs. Yummy salads, etc., reasonably priced. It’s located at the end of the strip with Tuesday Morning. Small indoor area & tables outside in good weather. They also cater so you may occasionally find it closed due to that since it’s such a small place. My friend & I like to grab a bite there if we’re headed to LeFont theater.
Gloria…I LOVE Royal Affair. Haven’t been in a while but their pistachio bark is fabulous!
