Police look for answers in I-285 accident that killed a Dunwoody woman

A 911 caller reported a possible animal blocking several lanes of I-285 shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, according to Sandy Springs police. But authorities arrived, they found a human body that was unrecognizable after being hit by multiple vehicles,

Gayla Joyce Walker was struck and killed on Interstate 285 Thursday morning. Her death left her friends and relatives stunned, sorrowful and mystified. “She was in such a good place in her life,” one friend said.

Investigators aren’t sure why 53-year-old Gayla Joyce Walker, of Dunwoody, apparently was walking on I-285 westbound and why none of the drivers who hit her stopped.

All westbound lanes of I-285 near Roswell Road were closed at 6:35 a.m. and remained blocked for nearly three hours, causing a major traffic jam during the morning commute. Police had to shut them down, Momon said, because numerous vehicles had struck Walker and parts of her body were scattered across several lanes of the road.  Continue Reading at the AJC.
