Book of the week: The Martian by Andy Weir

BOOK OF THE WEEK:
The Martian by Andy Weir
There’s this guy named Matt that is actually a friend of a friend of mine and I’ve met him but don’t really know him at all.  However, every book he has ever recommended to me I have LOVED.   So, since I’m a bookworm/nerd I actually get super excited whenever Matt recommends a book.  I was skeptical when I read the synopsis of The Martian but decided that Matt’s opinion was definitely worth giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Oh, my….I’m so glad I listened to him!  Before starting the book I discovered that in the November release of the movie adaptation, Matt Damon will have the leading role.  So it was fun to start the novel picturing Matt Damon as “The Martian“.    He’s basically an extremely smart, witty, resourceful, MacGyverish, American astronaut accidentally stuck on Mars.  The book is brilliantly researched and although somewhat technical at times, it is quite interesting to learn how he resolves issues and continues to persevere.   The whole world ends up rooting for his survival and rescue and it is so much fun to read and see this saga unfold!   The movie is scheduled to be released on my birthday in November.  Happy Birthday to me!
