CREATIVE ART FOR KIDS: Artist Dawne Cueller will introduce your child to the wonders of color and texture, learning his/her primary colors and learning how to mix them to create secondary colors! They will make a new masterpiece each week, working with paint, beads, clay, pastels, fabric-paint and using re-purposed items to make the latest crafts. Art can get a bit messy and we will provide smocks; however, please don’t send your child in their Sunday best! This class is for ages 5-10 (by August 1, 2014). The class meets Tuesdays, 4:00 – 5:00.
GYMNASTICS: Get energized with this 55-minute class! Start with a 10-15 minute warm-up then learn basic gymnastics skills on the different events. At Back 2 Basics Gymnastics Academy, we help children become ready for new challenges to improve their strength, coordination, spatial awareness, speed, and power. Not only does physical abilities improve, every child improves confidence, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills. Every child gets a chance to work on bars, beam, vault, floor, bars as well as the trampoline. Our friendly, well-trained instructors will help build your child’s confidence by leaps and bounds! For your child’s safety, we recommend girls wear a leotard (without a skirt). Sign your kiddo up today for a flipping good time! This class is for ages 5-10 (by August 1, 2014). The class meets Wednesdays, 4:30 – 5:30.
BEGINNING ACTING: This one hour class will include theatre games that introduce the concepts every actor needs to be successful. We will work to free the imagination, define the tools and tell the stories! Students will need to wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes. Great fun! This class is available for ages 6-18. (by August 1, 2014) 6-10 yr olds meet from 3:30-4:15, 11-13 yr. olds meet 4:30-5:30 and 14-18 yr olds meet 6 pm – 7 pm. All classes met on Thursdays.
Instructors: Chick and Dennis Durrett-Smith moved to Atlanta in 1980. During the following years they performed as singer/dancer/actor/mimes in productions at the Alliance Theatre, City Center Dance Theatre, Atlanta Contemporary Dance Company, Industrials shows, commercials and films. Chick has been director/choreographer for productions around the city and festivals across the country. Chick earned a BFA in Theatre at the University of Montevallo in Alabama. Dennis studied music theory and percussion at the University of Memphis and is a drummer who plays professionally. They have worked and taught together for 37 years. Zach Roe (BFA musical theatre, Catawba College) is a working actor and voiceover artist. Recently, he has been working as an audiobook narrator with Listen Up! Audiobooks. His most current musical role was performing as Jekyll/Hyde at a Marietta theater. When not performing, he teaches acting and character development classes and workshops for kids and teens. He also enjoys participating in Improv “Battle Axe” Competitions with the Academy Theatre whenever he can.
BEGINNING BALLROOM: With the huge success of Dancing with the Stars, interest in ballroom dancing has skyrocketed over the past few years. Ballroom is fun, elegant, useful, relaxing, and necessary! At some point in time, everyone needs to be able to dance. Set aside Sunday afternoons this fall to join other couples to learn the basics. It will be a great experience! Classes meet Sundays, 5:00-6:30 pm. Instructors: Chick and Dennis Durrett-Smith.

FITNESS BOOTCAMP: Our Boot Camps are NOT your typical Boot Camps! You will get the opportunity to experience a variety of workouts, games and equipment. One day you may participate in a boot camp version of baseball, team relays, or a scavenger hunt. Another day you will enjoy a timed workout or a workout of stations which may incorporate medicine balls, kettlebells, ropes, sandbags, weighted bars, slam balls, stability balls, Pilates rings, and much more. You may even be surprised with a “pop nutrition quiz” and win a prize. Classes meet Tues.Thurs 5-6 am.
