Throughout the year, there are several holidays that are enhanced by the use of fireworks. Although they are fun to use, they can be extremely dangerous.
Fireworks are legal in Georgia, but they do have certain restrictions.
The following items are legal: Small sparklers up to 100 grams each; fountains that emit showers of sparks up to 200 grams, snakes, glow worms, snappers and party poppers.
The following items are forbidden: Firecrackers, torpedoes, bottle rockets, roman candles, bombs, and large sparklers. Basically any firework that shoots in the air, explodes or makes a loud sound is prohibited.
Remember, sparklers burn at a temperature of approximately 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Each year, over 8,000 emergency room visits are the result of improper firework use, and over a 1/3 are from these sparklers.
Do not use alcohol when lighting off the fireworks! Please make sure that all children are supervised by an adult, and have a water source, or an extinguisher nearby in case of a fire.
Also, please be courteous of your neighbors if you plan on using these devices. The Dunwoody Police want all of you to have a great experience during the holidays, but please remember to be safe, prepared and responsible.
