Excerpt from an email from Wiley Stephens – Senior Minister at Dunwoody Methodist Church:

If you are within driving distance of Dunwoody United Methodist Church, I urge you to be at worship this coming Sunday.   It is Laity Sunday and our speaker is Becky Springer. Becky is our member who lost both of her hands and feet to a tragic illness, and she also had to receive a kidney transplant. But, like the woman in the Gospel, she has shown the power of faith in her persistence. She is a very loving and caring mother and wife, as well as an active member in our community.   The power of persistence shows in her example. Let each of us never stop too soon, or fail to try that one more time that could be the difference. Come be blessed by Becky’s message.

More about Becky:  In February 2008, Becky contracted Haemophilus Influenzae Bacteria (HIB), a “bug” that attacks the body rapidly and shuts down vital organs one by one. She became septic and lost all four of her limbs and kidney function. She spent three months in the hospital in Atlanta and an additional month at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Becky was on dialysis for three years until she received the gift of a lifetime—a kidney donated by her dear friend and fellow book club member—Amy Otto, in June of 2011.

Now a stay-at-home mom, Becky volunteers with the DUMC children, youth and other activities. Outside the church, she volunteers at Piedmont Hospital’s Mason Transplant Clinic.

She enjoys traveling, decorating and spending time with family and friends. Her latest aspirations include learning how to drive, again, and getting her “running legs.”
