Brook Run Trail and new Georgetown Park Updates

Brook Run Park Multi-Use Trail Update

Phase I of the multi-use trail at Brook Run Park is nearly complete.  Crews have poured all of the 0.7 miles of concrete for the 12-foot wide multi-use trail and the majority of the work has been done on the three wooden bridges at trail crossings.  Final work remains on the third bridge and the installation of safety railing along the trail which should occur over the next 2 weeks.

Additional work is being done adjacent to the trail including landscaping and beautification efforts as well as the construction of stormwater control basins. The basins serve as preventative measures to assist in detaining stormwater volume and sediment, allowing for soil infiltration and slower release of runoff water to nearby waterways.  Final grading on the sides of the trail allow for landscaping grass matting and sod placement as well as site cleanup for future bench and waste receptacle installation.

Throughout the trail construction the City has consistently met all EPD requirements regarding erosion and sediment control.  These compliance measures strictly adhere to Georgia EPD regulations and follow careful conformity with the approved trail path construction documents.

Phase II Open House:  The City of Dunwoody is committed to encouraging and facilitating active citizen engagement and has scheduled a Phase II open house for Thursday June 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The event is open to the public and will be held on-site at Brook Run Park at the Greenhouse Complex near the skate park.

Phase II open house attendees may view initial plans for the Phase II trail route, ask questions and provide input on the 12-foot wide concrete multi-use trail.  In addition, interested attendees will have an opportunity to take part in guided walking tours on a completed section of Phase I of the trail.  The guided walking tours provide participants with a first look at the multi-use trail, the route it takes through the park and the key benefits and features of the newly constructed trail.

Phase II will be a one mile, 12-foot wide multi-use concrete trail which will connect with Phase I and complete an approximate 2 mile loop within the park.  Following the Phase II open house, the City will begin preliminary design work which will take place throughout June with anticipated trail construction beginning in the fall.   A “Food Truck Thursday” event is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. the same evening, so please expect that the park may be crowded after 7:00 p.m.

Georgetown Park Construction Update

Over the past two months, the two sections of the new Georgetown Park have been under construction as the groundwork on the central park square and the children’s playground progresses on schedule.

Georgetown Park’s central park square is close to final grade and the concrete foundations for the event pavilion and the bathroom facilities will be poured in the coming weeks.  Several sections of the adjoining concrete path adjacent to the central park square have been poured, which will eventually connect to the Brook Run Park multi-use trail to create a 3.3 mile long trailway.

Crews have been active at the children’s playground at Georgetown Park and equipment design for three separate play structures has been finalized.  Electrical, water and sewer utilities will soon be in place and the new bathrooms facilities adjacent to the playground will begin to take shape.  Once complete, both sections of the new park will be available for community-wide use.
