– Heritage Sandy Springs will present Movin’ Groovin’ Mornings, a free children’s summer series held Wednesday mornings in June from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Designed for children ages 3 to 10, Movin’ Groovin’ Mornings offers fun and engaging activities for children to fill their summer mornings. The creative and interactive activities include dance, music, storytelling, puppets, and even science experiments. There is no cost to participate. Attendees also receive free admission to the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum. Movin’ Groovin’ Mornings are held at Heritage Green, 6110 Bluestone Road, Sandy Springs, GA. The schedule is as follows:
June 5, 2013: Musical Moves: Interactive Music & Dance with Muse for Life
Muse for Life, a community education center based in Sandy Springs, GA offering music lessons, dance classes, music therapy, yoga, and community outreach program, will instruct in creative movement and how to interpret and move to music.
June 12, 2013: Storytelling with Akbar Imhotep
Akbar Imhotep is an Atlanta storyteller who brings his stories to life with puppets, props, voices and theatrics. Akbar began his artistic career in 1977 as an actor with the Proposition Theatre Company. In 1979, he was introduced to puppetry at the Center for Puppetry Arts. After a six-year residence at the Center, he launched his solo career, traveling around the city with his colorfully draped suitcases filled with magic, wonder and excitement. Akbar has been affiliated with the Wren’s Nest since 1985 and served as the storyteller-in-residence from 1985 to 1999.
June 19, 2013: “One Upon a Time in China” performed by Piccadilly Puppets
The Piccadilly Puppets Company is a nonprofit touring puppet theater operating out of Atlanta, GA which has been featured at regional, national and international puppetry festivals. Many of their puppet shows are creatively educational as well as entertaining. Piccadilly will be performing “Once Upon a Time in China” during the Movin’ and Groovin’ series. This enchanting Chinese tale is a multi-cultural gem with a moral about the importance of honesty. See an Emperor provide a future for the land he loves and the peasant boy who helps him.
June 26, 2013: The Science of Sound! Presented by Big Thinkers Science and Exploration
Big Thinkers Science provides interactive and hands-on science programming for elementary-aged children throughout the state of Georgia. Their goal is to inspire children to THINK BIG by scientifically engaging with the world around them. To close the Movin’ Groovin’ series, Big Thinkers will bring a dynamic interactive science workshop to the kids that is all about sound! As an added bonus the kids with make their own Glove-o-phone!

Heritage Green, a 4-acre park in the heart of Sandy Springs, is located at the corner of Sandy Springs Place and Bluestone Road, next to City Walk Shopping Center, 6110 Bluestone Road. Movin’ Groovin’ Mornings are from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and are free to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, yoga mats and a brown bag lunch to enjoy in the park after the program. Parking is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated parking lots and at the Heritage Sandy Springs office. Movin’ Groovin’ attendees will also have free admission to the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
