My sister-in-law had her purse in her husband’s console of his truck in Murphy Candler park, they went for a walk with the kids and when they came back, her purse was missing. The funny thing is there were very valuable tools as well as a 3ds that were visible, but completely untouched. It really led them to believe someone had watched her put the purse inside the console as there was no other way you could see the purse. Luckily, she had taken her wallet out of her purse and carried it with her, but she still lost so much valuable information, car keys, and most importantly her feeling of safety. When they called to file the police report (which got sent to Dekalb PD instead of Dunwoody PD), they said they had been fielding calls all day from neighboring parks and believed it could have been the same people. They had reports in Dresden Park, Blackburn Park, and Murphy Candler already at that point. It appears what they were able to do was slightly pry the lock mechanism from the door just enough to put something up there and pop the lock. And, they were nice enough to lock the truck back after taking her purse. Had she not immediately reached for her purse, she may not have known it was gone. The truck was undisturbed and no damage was visible at first sight.
We all love to enjoy this beautiful summer weather and we all carry so much in our purses it is tempting to leave it in the car so your shoulder doesn’t hurt and even putting it out of sight didn’t seem to help in this case.
I would hate for others to go through this as it has been a process — cancelling cards, changing locks, recreating calendars, etc so I would like to make the community aware and remind them once again to take their valuables.
