KUH, Connie Jean 1947 – 2013 Connie Jean Kuh, 65, of Destin, Florida was taken to heaven on Sunday, April 14, 2013. Connie, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was born on December 28, 1947. She was the daughter of the late J. Herbert Slack and June A. Slack of Philadelphia and Kane Pennsylvania. She was also preceded in death by her uncle Lawrence G. Anderson of Kane, PA, and her aunt Jean C. Slack of Laguna Hills, CA. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, William G. Kuh; son Jeffrey H. Kuh and daughter Merrit A. Miller; son in law Duncan W. Miller, grand twins Colin W. Miller and Reid W. Miller of Atlanta, GA; and brother Lloyd H. Slack, of Baltimore, MD; brother in law Gregory H. Kuh and sister in law Diane M. Kuh of Pensacola, FL. She is also survived by nieces Erin Van Gundy of Lake Oswego, OR; Emily Kuh of Portland, OR, niece Sarah Kuh of Pensacola, FL; nephew Brian Kuh of Squim, WA, and one grand niece and four grand nephews. Raised in Atlanta, Connie graduated from North Fulton high school in 1965. She attended Brenau College where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, president of the Alpha Rho chapter of Kappa Pi, an honorary art fraternity, and was selected to Who’s Who among students in American Universities and Colleges her senior year. Connie began her teaching career at Montgomery Elementary school in DeKalb County, GA., and received her Master of Education degree from The University of Georgia in 1973.Connie left teaching to raise a family in 1976, and involved herself in various church and community activities in the states of Florida, Mississippi, and Tennessee where her husband Bill worked. She became a member of PEO while living in TN. Returning to Atlanta in 1996, it would become a matter of time before she would begin teaching again. Connie loved teaching children and they reciprocated by loving her and her teaching. Connie began substitute teaching, eventually returning to a full time teaching position at Vanderlyn Elementary school in DeKalb County, GA, and later retired in 2005 when diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Connie and Bill moved to their home in Sandestin, FL in 2006, where she and her husband are members of First Presbyterian Church in Niceville. The funeral service and visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son – Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, on Friday, from 6 to 8 PM and the funeral service will be held on Saturday, at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NW, Sandy Springs. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
