Survey on Discreet Math Option

Submitted by Suzanne B.

This was just sent out via the Kittredge weekly e-newsletter.  I think it is important enough  for everyone involved in Dekalb County Schools to participate.  Dekalb County currently incorporates the “Integrated Math” in the curriculum, but is considering changing back to the discreet math option.  The AJC ran an article several weeks ago on this topic.

Survey on Discreet Math Option

All  parents are requested to share feedback on DCSS’s intention to offer the discreet math option (referred to as the traditional approach) using the CCGPS/CCSS (Common Core Georgia Performance Standards/ Common Core State Standards) appropriately sequenced for such an option if the state BOE approves to grant such flexibility (State BOE meeting is March 14).

This discreet math approach would be applicable to all incoming 9th graders beginning the 2011-12 school year and would be sequenced as follows:

9th Grade Course          Intermediate Algebra with Statistics

10th Grade Course        Geometry and Statistics

11th Grade Course        Advanced Algebra and Statistics

12th Grade Course        Multiple Course Offerings in

Mathematics

Parents may share feedback by going to the district’s website or by utilizing this link.
